Stock markets

A special person sent me a Astrologer's prediction on the next stock market crash.

Whilst very interesting to read, the Astrologer clearly admits he is not giving advice, merely reading the stars, and we take the information and act on it (or not) at our own risk.

Incidentally, we've been discussing the market in the office, amongst ourselves. Bearing in mind that I am discussing it with two men more than 10 years younger than me, and also who have been in the market perhaps 2 years at the very most.

One has a 'cowboy' strategy, and the other has 'research and never buy' strategy. Neither work tremendously well, but the Cowboy has managed to win a few rodeo rounds.

Now, for 2 months now I've been predicting a bear again in September month, based on a little data and research I've done. I think there's no chance the bull can run on this economy, and these debt amounts. People have to realise we are living a false economy, and I think that cash has to be king at the moment.

So I'm basically out of the market wholly and solely. Well... I've left a few bits and pieces in, but let's say they wouldn't put food on the table.

So people, watch the market in the near future ...adn lets see what happens.

BTW - the astrologer say the 18th of September......

Cheap - but healthy

Ever on the hunt for cheap, healthy and tasty food, I am always appreciative of people that go out and do the 'hunt' for me and then post it in their blog.

It saves me a lot of time, and UK is so good at things like "Feed your family for a fiver". Seeing as some of the time I actually am feeding 5 people, and all the other times I'm feeding 4, it's quite a feat to be able to find a cost - effective solution.

So, I now have to do shopping by recipe, and then print the recipe to do, and then cook it.

When winter is hear we cook huge great stews, freeze half, and eat it over a week. Yum, my best! What's left can be made into a soup for work.

Last night I made smoothies with yoghurt, honey, almonds, milk and freshly picked blackberries - right off the bushes outside the house in the forest. It was the brightest purple colour. Amazing colour, and a really good taste! Gotta go pick more blackberries before they go away.

Tweeting and Twittering

I've been studying Twitter. All in the name of office research of course, and also because I don't 'get it' as to what all the fuss is.

In order to 'get it a bit more I did all the usual stuff you have to do , got people to follow me (the cheque's in the post people - thanks!) and followed other people (many celeb's lives are SO boring - who knew!) and I 'tweeted' now and then.

OK , so I'm not prolific as other people who clearly have no life. Demi Moore seems to do it in her sleep. However, I tweet now and then, and I answer others when they tweet me. I've been trying to figure out how companies monetise their site, and I can see some way o doing it, but potentially very time consuming.

The biggest concern I have, is that the art or writing epistle such as these are being lost. Twitter is full of short words, symbols and some times and unintelligible language that even makes no sense to me!
We are creating a generation of children that require instant satisfaction in 140 characters or less! Better yet - they don't even have to know how to spell! Yay, I really look forward to the day when the essay I red from my daughter is gobbledegook - without any vowels in it.

Need an example ? Here from a 13 yr old : hahaha!!! jst anotha embaressing day at skool!!! god miss ht ws sooooooo angry at me!!!! :P :P :P!!!!! hahaha lol!!!!

Ok, so probably not soooooo bad, but bad enough. This is what they are moving into.
So what's my gripe? Well, we ate turning into 'fast food writers" Macdonalds lives, where we have to get everything now, if not sooner, and we have to do everything quicker. No due care for accuracy, style, construction or asthetic elements, just quick completion and move on. Drive - In reading, fast food lifestyle. No planning, no preparation, no patience.

So, does that explain the kids going in and shooting people in school ? Frustration at not getting what they want when they want it? Instant solution ? Get rid of the people like you do in a game (game play is instant) - problem solved.

Are we creating a generation that cannot communicate properly ? Hell yes!! How do you know how people feel/ will react and know what people truely understand in 140 characters? The problem is that the kids actually don't care. And THAT is the new problem. Apathy and lack of caring. But so what ? It fits into 140 characters....

The Thinking blog

I can't wait until they invent a thing that allows you to wirelessly transmit your thoughts to your blog. That way I'd be able to write it on the move as I see and do things. I'm always walking around saying "I must put that in the blog" and "I must write about that", and I never remember it by the time i get back to a pc!!

So I can't wait for that invention.

In the mean time here I am typing away furiously, having just got back from Ripley's Beliv It Or Not museum in Piccadilly, London. It was interesting, and I have great photos, just have to download them from my phone and onto the laptop...

Tallest Man, sharks teeth, shrunken heads ( which are the 'Crown Jewels' of the display they say)and other strange things.

The Richmond Heron

A friend awaits ever day ....

Mobiles and driving......

Now here's a bloody good idea......

"What is the best way to prevent motorists from using the mobile phone when they are behind wheels? Awareness campaigns and law have done much but technology is a more effective and surefire way to ensure compliance. A group of US inventors have come up with a computerized car key that prevents mobile phones from functioning once it is inserted into the ignition. The specially designed key, Key2SafeDriving, sends a signal which blocks calls and SMS messages automatically."

Read more here ( hope it catches on)....

Olden days

Whilst stroling around London in my many walks, I sometime see areas that I could well imagine 200 years ago, as places people lived. In a little side cul-de-sac in Hallam street, between Duchess and New Cavendish, there are houses with garages below that you could easily see 200 years ago as carriage garages and stables.

As you walk past and seethe almost cobbled area, ou can se carriages entering and leaving, and being parked in the garages side - by side, and people living above, and much hussle and bustle.

So cool.....

Beautiful weather

Well, as usual the Brits were complaining about the weather yesterday - too hot apparently! Last week they moaned there was no sun (only 5 out of 7 days were full sunshine)and said the summer was over. NO IT ISN"T. Hell, it was 29 + degrees yesterday and i actually saw people melting in the tube, sliding down the doors and ending up as a pile of goo on the floor.

Yes, I stepped over them.

But really, it's hot as hell here again today and they should be loving it. OOps we've had 4 days (out of 4 so far) of sunshine this week!! God forbid! Go on Bits, start you little moan......

Just so you know......

You learn 2 love, not by finding a perfect person, but by learning 2 see an imperfect person perfectly.

You're where ????

I just sms'd m ex to ask if he'd like to see the kids this weekend.
I thought it'd be nice for them to see him, even though they spent 10 days with him in Germany 2 weeks ago.

Anyway, the reply was " wld love to. Will let you know timings after i arr from America 2morrow. tx R"

Excellent. This is the guy that said (and I quote) "I don't have enough to scratch my ARSE with" to me, and gave up paying any maintenance payments last year when he wrote off his car, and then was convicted of diving under the influence, thus losing his job.

It's nice to know his standard of living is good, and he's happy, and he can fly around the world (don't forget the trip to Ireland also), and have fun.

Nice to know that when you only look after yourself, your life is good, and stays that way!! Guess we should all become narcissistic - and happy!!I'm gonna aim for that - you should too!

Friends you forgot about pop out of FaceBook like......

I dunno - but they do! People I've not seen for 20 years, people I worked with 10 years ago. Now, are they friends, 'networks' or other?

How do you categorise them after all this time ? Acquaintances?

It's strange, and generally, there is a flurry of 'reunion' and then ... nothing! Same as when you stopped communicating 10 years ago.

So tell me , if I delete them as a friend - do they still get updates????

Clean you teeth at home = please?

Whilst walking to work, I saw a guy standing in the foyer of his office, smart business suit on etc, FLOSSING HIS TEETH! Mouth open, teeth showing, tonsils displayed...urgh.....

Now everyone is up for a bit of good dental hygiene - but honestly!! In a foyer of a posh office area?

I's think you'd go to the toilet, your office, goodness anywhere.....

Come on people!!!

Quotes for the day ...

Need some pick-up lines ?

Here you go.....

I heard that milk does the body good, but damn! How much did you drink?

If I were an enzyme, I'd want to be a heliocase, so I could unzip your genes.

And 2 bad ones.....

I've lost my virginity. Can I have yours?

Hey, are those moon pants you're wearing? Cause your ass is out of this world!

Early bird to work...

Right, I'm in the office at 7:35 this morning!

Being dropped off at the station means I could get the 6:55am train, and the 7:15 tube to hit office at that time - amazing!

Basically I could lop off 30 mins if I lived next to the train station!
I could also negate any chance of sleeping I recon, but with the bloody noisy birds I've got outside the window, I think they're doing a pretty good job not not letting me sleep either!

So, train or birds? Dunno, both pretty bad......but the idea of staying in bed 30 mins longer appeals a lOT......

Communication

I watched ' The Break-Up' last night - the movie with Vince Vaughn and Jennifer Aniston? It was ok - no great shakes, but it did remind me how important the communication aspect of relationships is. I mean, it's one thing saying " I wanted 12 lemons" when he brought her 3, it's another thing saying " I want you to care enough to bring me 12 lemons when I ask for twelve, and not bring me three because you thought that was enough. I want you to respect me enough to do that."

The message is very different. On the one hand the latter is harder to say, and much more effort. On the other, the former is a veiled subliminal message that generally only a wise man with super natural powers would get. Bet we all do the first. Then we moan that people don't 'understand' us. Well, maybe they would if we spoke longer more meaningful sentences, with actual words that offer emotion and explain feelings, that would help, and maybe we'd all 'get what I men' a little more.

I know that I try to be more clear when I speak my mind - I try not to be hurtful, but every one knows i can't do subtle, and I'm not big on patience either. But then life is one big learning curve, and I'm trying to learn to be better as we go....

The weekend is here

Hi to all of you that are looking forward to the weekend. It's Friday and the weekend rolls forward ....

Oh what to do ? Rowing on the Thames with family and friends? A trip to Leeds Castle? A late lie - in (another one?) or just a braai at home ?

Fun will be had, food will be consumed, Pimms will be crucial, and love all around..

Bring it on.......

Good office ettiquette

Well, it's another rant, but this is the place for that is it not?

This one is about good office ettiquette.

1) Ask the whole office if they would like the aircon on - the majority wins
2) Don't start the day with exactly the same music medley every day - every bloody day. It shows you have no imagination, you don't listen to a variety of music, and you are a boring old fart.
3) Blow your nose regularly if you have the sniffs (urgh!!!)
4) Say good morning back when people say it to you. That's just plain manners.

The aftermath of the night before

Well, the pain is being paid for the fun the night before!! I popped into a friend last night to collect some spices etc that she was getting rid of as she's moving out of her house ... and one turned into 3.....

Soooo badly hung over. I just went for 'one drink' to say goodbye to friends going back to Aus! Honest! But we were having such a good time with friends and neighbours arriving ....it turned into a weird but wonderful party.

I'm gonna miss Linda - she's a tonic, and a love and so full of energy!!!

Maybe a trip to Sydney is coming sooner than we think.....

Wonderful weekends...

Oh what a lovely weekend. Really, what a lovely weekend. You forget how weekends can actually feel like they can be fun, relaxing and romantic all at once if you have the right person in your life, the right food, and the right weather as well.

It all sort of comes together.

Friday was relaxing, my wonderful man came up early to collet me from the station, and when we got home, we made a jug of Pimms, went outside on the bench in the sun, and as the sun went down we watched the sunset, drank the Pimms and talked about all the really important things in life, and the not – so. We moved inside when it got chilly.

Saturday was a really late start, walk into town, to the seafood restaurant, where we had 18 oysters (shared), tomato and Mozarella salad ( shared), bread with a garlic dip, a mint, spinach and vinegar dip, and taramasalata dip,all complimented by a crisp white wine.

Then we did a little shopping, and walked home to have cappuchinos and 5 different types of cheeses with a wonderful coffee and chocolate flavoured red wine. The wine was a bit young, so we will lay the other bottles down for a while.

Sunday was another late start – basically you forget about late starts when you have kids so the decadence fo these two late starts were not lost on me, in fact I think I tried to stretch them as late as possible, knowing that their occurrence was so few and far between, I’d better make the best of it!

We made French toast and ate it in the conservatory in the sun. My man went home later for reasons best left alone too long an explanation) and I relaxed in front of the TV lying down. That lasted about 3 hours – pure luxury for me to have the TV and the remote to myself all day! Then I went up to bed and to sleep – having had what was absolutely the most perfect weekend ever.
