There has been much discussion of late about one's ego. I've read 'A New Earth' by Ekhart Tolle and he speaks of the ego as well.
All about how we are all so egotistic, and we all think we are so good and clever, and that if we could release ourselves of these thoughts, and remember that everyone else tries to talk / act brave and clever it's cos they are insecure.
It's their ego that makes them talk themselves up to far greater than they are, (boy do we know some types like that hey?) and if you can remember that these people are so very insecure, and also not proud of themselves or their achievements. Then you can be more kindly to them when you talk to them.
You can also not get irritated by their amazing claims - "I was the best salesman EVER - 4 years in a row!" or "I met so-and-so and they offered me a job" - etc.
We've all been known to do it - I know I have, makes me feel and seem more important than I really am, and I always used to say I had to pat myself on the back cos no-one else ever did, but I've learnt to curb the urge.
I understand people more now, and I can look at them from a different perspective, which could only be a good thing. More people should read more good books, and watch less TV, and learn a thing or two!
Namaste.
