Ladies and Gentlemen - it is with great honour I announce to you the discovery of neighbourly friendship.
Yes, it still exists! I hear you all 'gasp' in awe... and I am as amazed as you, I assure you, but I can confirm that I was the recipient of such good neighbourly deeds the other day!
Picture this ..
I was in the bath ( well,it was 7pm, people ) and the doorbell went. My daughter, duly following her remit to do the opposite of everything I tell her NOT to do, went and opened the door.... and then left the door open whilst disappearing upstairs to tell me that someone was at the (wide open) door.
Excellent, my years of training and effort re 'stranger danger' was well used then.

Note to childless friends: Don;t bother protecting your kids - read a book instead in the time you would have been taking to explain life's dangers to them.
A) you'll enjoy the time more, and
b) we who have trod before know that anything conversation you have with your kids prefaced by 'Don't' is totally ignored and acted upon as soon as the situation arises as in "Don't touch the hot stove you'll burn yourself." etc...

Rewind to the bath.
So, sopping wet, and attempting to get out of bath, dry and get dressed in 5 seconds flat, I hobble downstairs, sopping wet, and rather strange looking where I see a lady in her late 60's early 70's. She introduces herself as Daphne and hands me a package ( envelope) and says " Welcome to the Neighbourhood!"
We proceed to discuss our new arrival, the package ( information put together by Daphne and retired friends for new arrivals), as I drip on our new carpet and say "Oh thank you so much!" multiple times.
Apparently, these retirees/ pensioners do this for people that move in the area, and leave a phone number in case you need anything!! Well, blow me down! Neighbourly kindness etc!!
So, people, THAT is why the UK is a great place to live!!
PS - I went back to the bath after that!!
A photo I took at Lulworth Cove last week.
